Aesthetics

The aesthetics of your solar installation are important, as firstly you'll be seeing it every day, and secondly, the look of your installation can have a significant impact on the value of your house. This is especially important for higher value, architecturally significant houses where the additional expense of roof integrated panels is likely to more than pay for itself by preserving and enhancing the valuation of the house.

Leeds Solar's systems use all black panels in a range of sizes to enable us to design systems for all roof sizes to maximise the generation potential from your roof whitout compromising on the aesthetic appeal of the system. Our experienced team ensures the arrays are centred on the roof spaces, with rows of panels exactly aligned with each other, excess rails are cut off, and any cables are run discretely. We also offer black pigeon guard mesh skirt around the panels to prevent pigeons from nesting under the panels.

Quality of equipment and workmanship

The quality of the equipment specified, and the workmanship of the installation team can have a major impact on the lifetime savings and costs associated with the system. Leeds Solar only specify the highest quality equipment with a full system design life of over 50 years for the panels, and 15-20 years for inverters and batteries. We also ensure that our systems have easy to use monitoring and control via smart phone Apps to ensure our customers can make the maximum savings from the solar energy generation, and energy storage from solar from overnight cheap rate tariffs.

To achieve this we offer high quality European manufactured panels with 30 year performance warranties, along with long life LiFePO4 batteries from 3 leading manufacturers.

Our 15 years of solar experience gives us high confidence in these design life figures, as we've barely had any panel failures in 15 years, and estimate that over 90% of the inverters we've installed are still operating as well as the day they were fitted.

Roof integrated solar panels

Roof integrated panels are solar panels that sit into the roof, and form the roof covering in place of the tiles. They are generally considered to be significantly more aesthetically pleasing than solar panels mounted above the roof. Leeds Solar offer purpose designed roof integrated solar panels from Viridian Solar and Solfit. Both options are specialist roof integrated panel systems where the panels themselves form the water proof roof covering, with integrated flashing kits around the panels (similar to velux windows).

Leeds Solar do not install, and do not recommend cheaper options that use the plastic trays behind the panels. We view these plastic backing trays as a significant fire risk, as the plastic is non fire retarded, and we have tested these plastic backing trays as burning easily with flaming droplets, and not self extinguishing. In the event of a fire these plastic backing trays will turn your roof into a flaming torch, whereas the all glass, steel and aluminium construction of the Viridian and Solfit system won't.

Roof integrated panels are generally a more expensive option, but can be particularly cost effective when installed on a new roof or during a reroof featuring expensive roofing materials such as slate, Yorkshire Stone and clay tiles, as the savings on tile costs can offset much of the additional costs of the roof integrated system.

Above roof solar panels

Solar panels mounted above the roof tiles using a mounting system of specialist brackets, rails and clips to fix the panels securely to the rafters without compromising the weather tightness of the roof. This is usually the lower cost option compared to roof integrated panels.

Leeds Solar offer a range of mainly European manufactured all black panels in 300Wp, 440Wp, 450Wp and 500Wp capacity at various dimensions from 1.5m x 1.03m to 1.9m x 1.13m. This allows our designers to offer the optimum design capacity for any roof dimension.

We offer European manufactured panels due to the higher quality, 30 year performance guarantee, lower embeded carbon, better environmental protections during the manufacturing process, and better working conditions of factory workers.
